This Shoe Collab Uses the Vivid Colors of 90s Basketball Culture
Charlotte Joyce Kidd — October 8, 2015 — Fashion
The Reebok Classics x Beastin collaboration uses the bright blues, reds and yellows of 90s basketball culture to create this unique pair of retro-inspired sneakers.
The sneakers, presented in a colorway called 'Quiet Storm,' look like they could have been made with a paintbrush stolen from one of the animators of Space Jam. Crisp white and deep black emphasize accents of bright turquoise, royal blue, vibrant yellow and vivid red. The silhouette takes the inflated, triangular design so popular in 90s basketball sneakers and gives it an updated look, with slightly more obvious curves and a more contained outsole.
Reebok's collaborator on this nostalgia-provoking basketball sneaker is Beastin, a German streetwear brand founded in 2008 by Duki and Fu, two designers with a mutual love of 90s basketball and hip hop culture.
