The Porsche 3D-printed seats have been unveiled by the brand as a way to help enhance customization capabilities amongst consumers and further streamline manufacturing protocol. The seats are not fully created using a 3D printer, but are instead integrated with a comfort layer in the middle that can be fine-tuned to the firmness preferences of consumers. This includes soft, medium and firm to allow for an enhanced level of customization to be achieved for discerning drivers.
Michael Steiner, a Porsche board member in charge of R&D, said in a statement that, "The seat is the interface between the human and the vehicle, and is thus important for precise, sporty handling. That’s why personalized seat shells customized for the driver have been standard in race cars for a long time now.”
