The 1915 Çanakkale Bridge in Turkey set a new world record for the longest suspension bridge. It spans 2,023 meters and is open to traffic over the Dardanelles waterway. The massive structure was created by consulting group COWI for contractor DLSY. It connects Turkey's European and Asian shores.
In addition to being the longest suspension bridge in the world, the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge is also the tallest due to its distinctive 319-mete-high red towers. The towers support the bridge's concrete deck and create a visually impactful symbol. The bridge is expected to carry up to 45,000 vehicles across its six lanes every day. It will support tourism and commercial activity in the area. Moreover, the distance between the water and the bridge was designed to support the passage of large container ships and cruise ships.
