Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is one of the most famous novels in western society. At first blush, it is just a silly love story, but if you actually read it, and read it critically, you will see it is so much more. The overarching theme of the novel is about how society and our own prejudices can keep us apart and make us miserable.
Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is a classic not just because of it's strong themes; it is also very easy to read and relate to. Although the conversations took place hundreds of years ago, we still talk and gossip about the same things the characters do, but just using different words. The main character was also a surprisingly strong female for her time. She refused to marry for money alone, she didn't shy away from showing how smart she was and she wasn't afraid to tell people what's up.
