Plaid patterns are a fall and wintertime staple--A-listers like Hilary Duff, the Olsen twins and Katie Holmes are regularly spotted in this grunge-era style. The simplest way to wear plaid is by pairing plaid patterns on top with well-tailored jeans or close-fitting tights on the bottom, as Ellen Pompeo has done in the third image.
Hilary Duff shows how to wear a bright plaid scarf in the first image of the gallery. In the second, Katie Holmes dons wide-legged plaid pants with a dark, form-fitting top.
Not all fall outfits are restricted to just one plaid piece, however. You don't have to be as conservative with your tartan as Hilary Duff or the Olsen twins. During London Fashion Week for Fall 2008, House of Holland sent models down the runway in bold, head-to-toe plaid patterns.
If you're not completely sold on channeling the '90s grunge era by donning a lumberjack shirt, check out some of the more demure plaid fashions below. Whether you're looking for a plaid scarf, a la Hilary Duff, or a pair of plaid sneakers, you'll find what you're looking for here.
