Michelle Rhee gave a public education speech to the students of Stanford Business Graduate School and discussed the importance of quality education for all children. Rhee is the former Chancellor of the Washington D.C. public school system, who had to make tough calls about closing schools for the sake of better education for all students.
In Rhee's speech, she stresses the importance of focusing on the task at hand as opposed to things like personal popularity or promotions. Rhee says that it's easy to make mistakes when one is focused on the wrong issue. She uses closing schools as an example of this because the decision enraged a community, but ultimately improved school conditions for a large number of people.
While Rhee stays focuses on the topic of education, she also applies her advice to all industries.
