The NES Advantage Joystick Desk Lamp Upcycles Obsolete Controllers

Michael Smalley of RecycledRetroGear created this NES Advantage Joystick Desk Lamp out of an obsolete video game controller. Smalley removed the joystick on the console and replaced it with a 40-watt light bulb and minimalist lampshade. He doesn't indicate what the buttons on the right side of the console have been configured to do, but the lamp does turn on and off with a button rather than a switch.

This lamp from an upcycled gamer console is just one of the ways savvy DIYers have been modifying their old, obsolete tech devices to be functional in a modern setting. Items that would otherwise have been trashed now have a new, more useful life and a killer backstory for their owners to share with guests.
