Grain Blanc is a compact vertical wind turbine developed by Belgian startup Phileole to harness wind energy directly on sailboats without the noise or complexity of traditional turbines. The unit bolts onto a sailboat mast and has a vertical orientation that captures wind from any direction without requiring mechanical pivoting, making it suitable for constantly shifting wind conditions encountered at sea.
At approximately one metre tall with a 45-centimetre diameter, the turbine generates electricity to power onboard systems such as navigation lights, radar, GPS, VHF radio, and other essential equipment while under sail. Its design emphasises quiet operation with minimal vibration, addressing the common issue of turbine noise and disturbance found in conventional marine wind generators. The turbine also serves to maintain battery charge when a vessel is docked, supporting devices such as dehumidifiers during periods of inactivity.
