Vietnam-based studio Vo Trong Nghia Architects is responsible for the renovation of a garment factory in Ho Chi Ming City.
The renovation is defined by a suspended bamboo ceiling that cleverly obscures mechanical equipment from view. The client requested that the space have a distinct identity, one that would set them apart from other clothing exporters in the city. The design team explained, "The aim of the project is to redefine the company's identity through renovation in order to stand out among their competitors."
The architects focused on the reception and administrative area of the factory, which is the most discernible to guests. The draping ceiling looks like a large woven blanket; however, it also has the double function of concealing ventilation ducts and lighting fixtures that are necessary, but otherwise unpleasant to the eye.
