AI-Powered Robot Baristas

Ella the Robot Serves Drinks at an Automated & Contactless Coffee Shop

Rail company JR East recently introduced Ella the robot barista to Tokyo and Yokohama stations in Japan so that travelers can conveniently order coffee at a fully automated and contactless coffee stop.

Conceptualized, created and operated by Crown Coffee, Ella takes the form of a six-armed artificial intelligence robot barista that prepares orders after they have been submitted via the Ella app. After placing and paying for their order, customers will get a QR code that they can scan at the point of collection to ensure that they are picking up the right drink.

Regulars who frequent the stations will appreciate being able to set up a digital wallet, collect points, purchase subscriptions and get personalized recommendations.
