Clever Young Driver Apps

'Safe & Sound' Plays Embarrassing Music When a Teen Drives too Quickly

Toyota has unveiled a clever young driver app that plays embarrassing music when a teen drives poorly.

'Safe & Sound' is available on Android devices across Europe. To use it, parents simply have to press a button to let the app know the teen has started their trip. The app connects to the teen's Spotify account and overrides their playlist to play their parents' embarrassing music whenever the teen speeds or tries to use their cell phone. With this, the teen is automatically reminded to drive with more caution. The app also blocks any social media notifications and phone calls while the teen is driving. At the end of the trip, the app sends both the parent and the teen a driving report to summarize their trip.

This concept plays off of the idea that there is no better way to dissuade teens from doing something than by delivering the very real threat of embarrassment.
