Volkswagen is one of Germany’s most recognizable vehicle manufacturers. The name itself translates roughly into "people’s car." The company’s roots go back as far as the 1930’s and currently they are enjoying a resurgence in popularity with cars such as the Golf, Jetta and the new Scirocco.

In the 1950’s and 1960’s they gained fame with the VW Beetle. The little car was relaunched in 1998 as the ‘New Beetle’ and has come back with a vengeance. It is popular with both those who once owned the oddly-shaped car when they were young and with buyers who have never driven one.

The Westfalia camper van was an essential within the hippie culture in the 1960’s, as cross-country travel was made comfortable in the German-made predecessor to the minivan.
