For the multitude of people wringing their hands over the decline of print media there is this X Jiukoushan R.D. Series Notebook by Filter017 to wipe away their inky tears.
The prints from the the Taipei-based design studio are bustling explosions of vibrant, splashy colors that shoot from the page straight into the viewers eyes, tickling their optic nerves with infectiously funky characters and offbeat decals.
Online and digital media beats out print media in a number of categories, but there is something to be said about the visceral, tactile experience of actually turning pages and even watching colors fade. What’s more, you can’t get that new book smell from a screen—not yet, anyways.
Perhaps the monstrous tsunami of digital media, rather than make print media extinct, will end up making its page-bound counterpart seem vintage, novel and even romantic.
