Phil Zimbardo Discusses Making Sacrifices In This Hero Keynote

In this hero keynote, Phil Zimbardo encourages people to make their actions extraordinary. As a research psychologist and author Zimbardo believes that, everyone should become “heroes-in-training.” Believing that heroes are not special, instead Zimbardo quotes President Barack Obama that heroes are, “ordinary people doing extraordinary things.”
The classic hero model created by Joseph Campbell traditionally places heroes as male warriors and adventurers yet this is no longer the case. Providing examples such as Rosa Parks, a seamstress that helped to transform America and the world, Zimbardo sees the potential that each of us has to influence others through a ripple effect.
Heroism is an action that is voluntary in the service of one or more people in need involving a risk done without the motivation of a reward. There is an importance to stand and speak up that must be taught in the next generations.
