YouTube Introduces Twitch-Like Emotes for Comments and Live Streams

YouTube is launching its own set of emoticons similar to the live streaming app Twitch. ‘YouTube Emotes’ can be used in comment sections and live chats across the YouTube platform, allowing users to utilize a set of gaming-themed emotes using the emoji picker. Emotes also have text-based names for auto-complete. For instance, if you input ":cat-orange-whistling:" into the autocomplete field on YouTube, the remark will be replaced with an orange cat whistling.

The current selection of emotes were created by Abelle Hayford, Guy Field, and Yujin Won.

“We’re starting with emotes created for Gaming but are working on bringing even more themes of emotes in the future, so stay tuned for emotes for even more communities!” said YouTube in a community post.
