Rotated Hillside Homes

The Yaw House Rotates to Follow a Sloping Mountain Site

Yaw House is a residence by KWK Promes completed in 2025 in Poland's Beskid Mountains. Named after the aeronautical term describing rotation around a vertical axis, the home pivots its original gabled form to respond to the site's steep topography, valley views and solar orientation. The resulting C-shaped layout integrates with the hillside, while a green roof extends into the surrounding landscape and visually reduces the building's presence within the mountainous setting.

The interior reflects the rotated geometry with curved living spaces arranged to maximize natural light and views across the valley. Private areas are positioned deeper within the sloping site, creating a spatial separation between shared and secluded functions. Pine timber and plywood are used throughout the exterior and interior, establishing a consistent material palette suited to the alpine environment.
