As part of its annual Read by the Sea Literary Festival, River John, Nova Scotia, is once again hosting its hit WordPlay event. Specially designed for children of all ages, the event helps make reading a more interactive and social activity for kids.

WordPlay is a reading festival for children, which is held as part of the larger Read by the Sea Literary Festival. This year, WorldPlay will coincide with the opening of author Sheree Fitch’s new bookstore 'Mabel Murple’s Book Shoppe and Dreamery.' The event will be hosted by children’s author and television host Starr Dobson and highlights will include a reading by prominent Mi’kmaq author Alan Syliboy, a performance by the Fancy Shawl Dancers from Millbrook First Nations, a reading by Francophone author and illustrator Marie-Louise Gay and a concert by the Wild City Roses.

While part of a larger literary festival, WordPlay demonstrates how literary events can be reformatted for a younger audience.
