This intriguing exhibit by artist Cyrille Andre is filled with mysterious wooden figures. Andre seems to avoid details in his impressive sculptures, instead focusing on basic human and animal forms.
Andre attended art school in Paris, which is where he fell in love with sculpture. These outstanding whittled figures have been given little cuts with a chainsaw to mimic the appearance of scars. This makes them seem more human, despite the fact that they have no real faces. Many of the whittled males in this collection have folded their arms, which suggests that they are closed off. One of these sculptures features a wooden women standing under an umbrella. The sculpture's posture makes it clear that it is supposed to be a woman.
These neat wooden figures are faceless and undefinable, but they're also interesting to look at.
