'We Wear Culture,' a new, informative site under the Google Arts & Culture umbrella, aims to give users a thorough breakdown of where fashion is today and where it came from. People think of fashion in different ways, but in the broadest sense of the term, fashion has existed for thousands of years. We Wear Culture documents this history in a searchable, engaging format.
The site is broken down into four overarching categories. 'The Icons' looks at famous designers and figures who've had an outsize impact on the fashion of their era. 'The Movements' delves into specific fashion motifs throughout different points in history, from Renaissance France to the streets of modern day Tokyo. 'The Making Of' investigates the craft behind fashions, and finally 'The Arts' explores fashion's longstanding relationship with other artistic media.
