Wattpad Introduces a 'Freemium' Model for Creator Monetization

Wattpad has introduced a new freemium model named "Wattpad Originals,' designed to help creators monetize their work while allowing non-paying readers to access portions of premium content more easily. Under this new model, authors can conceal specific chapters behind a paywall while permitting readers to access free content as a means of sampling before making a purchase.

“For the most recent story in a series, only the most recent ten chapters will ever be behind a paywall,” Wattpad was quoted writing on a support post. “Readers will be able to see how long they need to wait until the next part will be available for free.”

Wattpad Originals will offer an extensive library featuring more than 1,600 original works. This will provide non-paying readers with access to a broader range of content, incentivizing them to pay for additional works.
