Waste-Integrated Furniture

Ilaria Bianchi's Upcycled Furniture Boasts Forms Made from Recycling

This waste-inspired furniture looks to promote sustainability without compromising or hiding the message through design. Sustainability is a very popular design theme, but often it is hidden inside a very sleek and polished form-- one designer chose not to conceal the object's origins and incorporate waste directly into the furniture.

Ilaria Bianchi released the 'CastAway' collection that features recycled or discarded items in an effort to be eco-friendly -- not hiding the items in the design, but featuring them prominently. Environmental awareness is often seen in various forms of art, and this collection emphasized the impact that the wasteful culture is having on the environment.

The collection features various pieces ranging from chairs to tables that all use items that are either recycled or discarded. The designer hopes to use this waste-inspired furniture to be an idea for change -- explicitly showing what each person can do if they reused these materials through creative design.
