Walmart dark stores are being opened by the big box retailer to help it keep up with online orders and deliveries by leveraging existing retail footprints, but with slight augmentations. The retail locations aren't open to the public and are devoid of Walmart braiding on the exterior in a bid to help discourage shoppers from patronizing them. The interior of the locations, however, mimic the layout of a conventional retail outlet with some of the most popular items available to fulfill online orders.
Walmart dark stores are strategically positioned by the retailer to help it reach even more of the US population for deliveries with it projecting to reach 95% delivery coverage with options of three hours or less in the very near future.
