The Vivo Nex Will Have a Pop Out Selfie Camera and a Bezel-Free Screen
The holy grail of modern smartphone design is a device that abandons bezels altogether in favor of an edge-to-edge screen, and the Vivo Nex looks to be the first consumer smartphone to successfully achieve that goal. The phone was recently upgraded from concept to retail product, and it will be available to the Chinese market in the coming months.
As the infamous iPhone X notch has shown, the problem with extending the screen to the edges of the phone is that people need their front-facing selfie camera, and the lens can't be built into the screen without limiting the screen's reach. The Vivo Nex provides an ingenious solution to that dilemma. It doesn't have a camera in the screen, and instead the front-facing lens pops out from the top of the device when users activate it.
