Balance-Enhancing Insoles

These Vibrating Insoles for Shoes Help Improve Walking Performance

Researchers at Harvard University have created performance-enhancing vibrating insoles.

The insoles work by "electrically stimulating the feet with random vibrations." While the user won't be able to feel the vibrations, the insoles have been shown to improve the user's ability to walk, to boost stability and due to the fact that they improve balance in the user, they will likely decrease the risk of injury when walking. The insoles customize the vibrations to the user's walking habits by providing "signal upgrades" based on the sensitivity of the user's sole.

The vibrating insoles could be useful for people who face mobility issues and need to work on improving their balance, as well as elderly people whose balance tends to decrease as a result of the natural aging process.
