The ancient Egyptians built a thriving civilization on the banks of the Nile under the towering gaze of their magnificent pyramids, but professors Eric Ellingsen and Dickson Despommier have envisioned a bold new relationship between pyramids and agriculture called the Vertical Farm Project.
The Vertical Farm Project involves creating 'closed loop agricultural' ecosystems where nearly every aspect of the farming process is recycled and re-usedâ€"especially water and nutrients. The result is a highly sustainable and incredible solution to areas of the world that don't have the large expanses of fertile farm land needed to feed their populations. Best of all, however, is the fact that giant pyramids just look really darn cool.
