Modern Mountain Lodges

THE OMNIA is a USM-Designed Contemporary Lodge in Zermatt

THE OMNIA is a mountain lodge in Zermatt, Switzerland, designed with a modernist aesthetic that updates traditional alpine hospitality through a restrained, American modernism-inspired approach. The property is perched above the village with prominent views of the Matterhorn and is owned and operated by Swiss furniture maker USM, which integrates its modular systems and custom furnishings throughout guest spaces.

Architect Ali Tayar led the cohesive design, using warm materials such as white oak, gray granite, and leather alongside modern lines and modular built-ins. The lodge’s guest rooms and suites are alphabetically lettered rather than numbered and feature floor-to-ceiling windows framing the surrounding peaks. Public areas include a split-level lobby with a library, a heated pool and sauna with direct mountain outlooks, and dining spaces that reflect local cuisine traditions and seasonal produce. Most materials were sourced locally, and the overall interior concept avoids clichéd alpine decor in favor of a timeless, minimal yet warm palette.
