Designer-Led Modular Furniture Systems

USM and Alexander May Produce 'The Architecture of Work'

USM, a manufacturer of modular furniture systems, has partnered with designer Alexander May on a conceptual project titled 'The Architecture of Work.' This venture involves the creation of six distinct, small-scale workspace vignettes using the company's signature Haller system.

The modular furniture system installations are designed to embody different working styles and intellectual archetypes — from 'The Collector' to 'The Strategist' — and are presented as explorations of how physical environments can adapt to support varying professional behaviors and creative processes. The project is framed as a response to contemporary shifts in work patterns and is situated within a historical office building in New York City.

'The Architecture of Work is intended to serve as the beginning of a global series examining the intersection of spatial design and labor across different cultural contexts.
