Forest Canopy Retreats

The TreeBOX Cabin Reinterprets a Traditional Alpine Hay Barn

The TreeBOX cabin is a timber retreat by Studio Officina82 that draws inspiration from the movable-roof barchi hay barns found in Italy's Ligurian-Piedmontese Alps. Elevated on slender timber posts within an oak canopy, the structure is wrapped in continuous timber shingles across its roof, walls, and tapered underside. The compact interior features plywood-lined walls, a rope net suspended beneath a rooflight, and a king-size bed positioned beside floor-to-ceiling glazing overlooking the surrounding forest and mountain landscape.

A small balcony extends the living space with seating oriented toward the trees, while the illuminated TreeBOX entrance becomes visible along the woodland path after dark. The cabin forms part of the Selucente hospitality project, which focuses on restoring the alpine hamlet of Alpisella through architecture and landscape.
