The RED DSMC Has Unlimited Configurations
Elsa Blaine — November 16, 2008 — Tech
This astounding piece of photography equipment is a new RED 'Digital Stills and Motion Camera,' or DSMC. The unit comes in two models: the Scarlet, available in 4 versions, and the more professional 'EPIC.'
The company jokes that there are about 2,251,799,813,685,248 possible camera configurations with the modular DSMC. Still images on the units range from 4.9 megapixels to an unbelievable 261 megapixels.
Prices when the Scarlet camera hit the shelves in spring 2009 will range from $2,500 to $12,000. You will have to wait until summer for the EPIC, which will give you time to save up the $28,000 to $55,000 required to buy it. If that's not enough, RED is hinting at a 3-D version coming soon.
I have to say the stunning product promo photos are enough to get the blood moving.
