The Tokyo Marathon has been selected to host the 2027 Abbott World Marathon Majors Marathon Tours & Travel Age Group World Championships on March 7th, 2027. This marks the first time this event will take place in Asia, following previous editions in London, Chicago, Sydney, New York City, and the upcoming 2026 championship in Cape Town.
Qualifying rounds are already underway through a global network of more than 375 races that contribute to the Age Group World Rankings. Athletes aged 40 and older must be registered on the worldmarathonmajors.com platform to have their results count toward rankings, and for the 2027 championship, qualification will be determined by an athlete's position within their age group when the qualifying window closes on September 30th, 2026.
Jeff Adams, President of Marathon Tours & Travel, commented: "Japan’s deep-rooted running culture is an inspiration to athletes of all ages."
