Marathon Tours & Travel Debuts Amazon Marathon

— May 12, 2026 — Lifestyle
Marathon Tours & Travel has launched the inaugural Amazon Marathon, a limited-capacity endurance event scheduled for September 2026 in Puerto Maldonado on the edge of the Peruvian Amazon rainforest. This cardio experience offers distances of a full marathon, half marathon, and 10.5 kilometres on a looped jungle trail course.

Marathon Tours & Travel has positioned the Amazon Marathon as a fully hosted package, meaning that participants who choose to engage in this challenge will get domestic transfers in Peru, pre-race accommodation and welcome activities in Lima, race-week lodging in jungle lodges, on-site support staff, and an optional post-race extension to the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu.

Total participation for Marathon Tours & Travel’s Amazon Marathon is intentionally capped to approximately 50 runners to maintain an intimate atmosphere. All in all, the experience offers a rare convergence of physical exertion, ecological wonder, and cultural immersion.

Trend Themes

  1. Micro-capacity Endurance Events — Scarcity-driven race formats with participant caps create premium, exclusive experiences that can redefine pricing models and participant expectations.
  2. Adventure Wellness Tourism — Combining rigorous physical challenges with immersive natural settings is creating demand for hybrid offerings that blend fitness, mental health benefits, and destination-based wellbeing.
  3. Hosted Race Travel Packages — All-inclusive race-week logistics and curated cultural extensions are transforming single-event entries into multi-day high-margin travel products.

Industry Implications

  1. Sports Tourism — Niche destination races are shifting the industry toward experiential travel packages that integrate competition with local exploration and logistics.
  2. Outdoor Hospitality — Lodges and remote accommodations are being repurposed as staging hubs for premium adventure events, encouraging new revenue streams linked to short-duration stays.
  3. Eco-tourism Experiences — Small-scale, low-impact events held in sensitive ecosystems are prompting demand for sustainable operations and conservation-oriented guest experiences.
