TikTok, the popular video-sharing app, has recently announced that it is introducing support for passkeys, a passwordless login method that uses biometric authentication. Passkeys are an industry standard developed by the FIDO Alliance and the World Wide Web Consortium, and they allow users to sign in to apps and sites the same way they unlock their devices: with a fingerprint, a face scan or a screen lock PIN. This makes logging in easier and more secure, as users don’t have to remember or type passwords, and it protects them from online attacks like phishing.

To use passkeys on TikTok, users need to have an iOS device running iOS 16 or later, and they need to enable two-factor authentication for their Apple ID. They also need to sync their passkeys with iCloud Keychain, which ensures that they can access their account even if they lose their device or upgrade to a new one. To set up a passkey on TikTok, users can go to their profile, tap the menu button, tap settings and privacy, tap account, and then tap iCloud passkey. They will then follow the instructions provided to complete the setup. TikTok says it will begin rolling out passkeys for iOS in Asia, Africa, Australia, and South America beginning this month, and anticipates expanding in geographies and operating systems over time.
