The STRIA Multitool Combines Measuring and Checking Tools in One

— March 9, 2026 — Lifestyle
The STRIA multitool is a unique handheld design concept created by industrial designer Anuva Dwibedy to streamline model-making workflows. The STRIA multitool integrates four common studio tools into a single compact device, including a tape measure, a 12-centimeter foldable ruler, a 6-centimeter vernier caliper, and a utility knife. The design is intended to reduce interruptions during prototyping tasks where designers frequently switch between measuring, checking dimensions, and cutting materials.

The tool’s body is constructed from frosted ABS polycarbonate with red-tinted polycarbonate accents and stainless steel hardware for the blade and internal mechanisms. The translucent casing allows users to see the internal components while also highlighting the layered mechanical structure inside the device. There is a 3D-printed prototype has already been produced to test the integrated mechanism.

Trend Themes

  1. Integrated Studio Tools — Combining measurement, cutting, and checking functions into one handheld device creates potential for new product categories that simplify workflows and reduce tool switching in hands-on creative environments.
  2. Transparent Component Design — Visible internal mechanisms through translucent casings can shift consumer expectations toward products that communicate engineering complexity and craftsmanship as part of their aesthetic appeal.
  3. Compact Multi-function Devices — Miniaturized assemblies that pack several specialized tools into a single compact form factor open avenues for portable, space-saving solutions across small-workstation workflows.

Industry Implications

  1. Industrial Design Studios — Design firms that integrate multifunction prototypes could differentiate service offerings by emphasizing streamlined iteration cycles and reduced setup interruptions for model-making teams.
  2. Prototyping Tool Manufacturers — Manufacturers of studio instruments may find demand for hybrid tools that combine precision measurement with cutting capabilities in a single robust unit for professional users.
  3. 3D Printing Services — On-demand fabrication providers could leverage additive manufacturing to produce customized casings and integrated mechanisms that cater to niche ergonomic and aesthetic preferences.
