The Daily Mile Foundation and The Sports Institute at UW Medicine will bring the Daily Mile Program to schools in the United States. The program was initially launched in the United Kingdom, and promotes children either running or jogging for 15 minutes a day.
The Daily Mile's collaboration with The Sports Institute will also be academic, The Sports Institute will undertake extensive research on the effects of daily physical activity. The research will look at students in Seattle and the surrounding areas, the study will run over the course of the 2019-2020 academic year.
Overall the program looks to promote healthy lifestyles among young people, as well as educate people on the association between academic achievement, behavior, and physical activity. The program has a global reach of approximately 10,000 schools and has about 1.9 million students participating worldwide.
