Taking inspiration from the best features of Kickstarter and Groupon is the Beacon, an online crowdfunding and sales platform for raising funds with Bitcoin. By going about crowdfunding in this way, Beacon is able to bypass some of the fees that come with the mandatory use of services like Amazon Payments and PayPal for the purpose of accepting donations.
This platform being launched out of Beijing is designed to strip away some of the complications that come with raising funds for a new project. This is also reflected in the design of the website, which is made to be as extremely user-friendly as possible. Risk of failing to meet the desired funds on Beacon yields almost no risk, since users are only required to pay a 0.0001 BTC (about the equivalent of $0.03 US) transaction fee for use.
