Toys “R” Us recently released a series of desktop wallpapers, available for free download from their website, as way to promote a line toys in advance of the movie, ‘The Avengers.’ This is a keen move by the toy giant for a couple of reasons.
First, the company demonstrates it understands how kids and people in general prefer to interact with the Internet; that is, cheaply and visually.
Second, the actual wallpaper art is of high quality. These are not quickly sketched characters found in some dollar-store rag. The illustrations have more in common with professionally composed oil paintings. A few of them border on photo-realistic. All of them incorporate a visceral sense of movement and power. Given these features, it makes sense for people to go to the Toys “R” Us website and get the real deal rather than download some sub-standard picture from Google Images.
