Acquired Entertainment Metadata Firms

Gracenote's Telecom Acquisition of Baseline was $50 Million

Music and video metadata database Gracenote bought Baseline, a leading film and TV data services firm in a telecom acquisition worth $50 million. This telecom acquisition adds video metadata and subscription entertainment services to Gracenote's offerings.

This move indicates a greater focus on metadata and what Gracenote's clients can do with the information. This also increases their already considerably comprehensive database of 300,000 TV and movie projects, 1.5 million filmographies of television and movie professionals as well as historical box office stats for 45 different countries.

The deal was announced a few months ago just one day after Gracenote's new CEO John Batter joined the company. Batter previously worked at M-Go, a collaborative venture by Dreamworks Animation and Technicolor.
