The 'Teachers are Heroes' infographic was created as a nod to the important role that educators play in the socialization and future success of the students that they interact with.
As part of Teacher's Appreciation Week, The University of Southern California compiled the graphic to showcase the gender and age breakdown of teachers currently employed by the school system as well as to explore their job requirements.
Despite appearing to have a cushy job with summers off, convenient hours and good pay, the chart details that many educators complete over 20 hours of unpaid labor every week to ensure that their students are taught effectively. It also shows that 51% of teachers work Sundays as compared to only 30% of other professionals, and that the stress of the job leads to one in five instructors leaving the field within five years.
