The Art Gallery of Ontario Shows the Influence of the Movement

 - Apr 15, 2009
The Surrealists explored unique ways of interpreting everything they saw around them with emphasis on the unconscious and dreams. In doing so, these artists challenged convention and subsequently, their ideas were absorbed into several realms and of course, influencing the work of other artists.

Organized by the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Surreal Things explores the influence of the Surrealism movement in various fields such as fashion, design, theater, interiors, advertising, architecture and film. The exhibition also shows how the increasing pressures of the growing consumer culture is conflicted with Surrealism’s basic principles. This exhibition, on view at the Art Gallery of Ontario from May 9 through August 30, brings together extraordinary and confusing objects including painting, sculpture, jewelry, ceramics, textiles, fashion, furniture, film and photography.
