Diversifying University Supplier Initiatives

The Supplier Diversity Fair Aims to Support Locals

Stony Brook University’s Office of Procurement held its annual Supplier Diversity Fair in September in alignment with the new school year; attracting exhibitors, faculty, and staff members. This event served as a platform to "connect minority-owned, women-owned, and service-disabled veteran-owned businesses with university personnel, thereby promoting diversification of its supplier base and supporting the local economy."

Moreover, exhibitors presented a variety of products and services, including information technology solutions, architecture, and engineering services, medical and scientific laboratory supplies, promotional items, health and wellness offerings, spreadsheet services, and public speaking expertise—focusing on departmental needs.

As Maria Bracco, the MWBE-SDVOB program coordinator in the Office of Procurement, stated, “The connections made during the event provide an opportunity for these small and local vendors to establish relationships with our faculty and staff, which broadens our network of suppliers and helps support our local economy.” Ultimately, this initiative reflects the university's commitment to fostering inclusivity in procurement.
