THISS Studio Creates the Sunny Side Up Extensions

Architecture firm THISS Studio reconfigures a dark interior in East London with the Sunny Side Up extension. It functions as a sweeping canopy at the interwar home joined by timber and a curved aluminum roof. The exposed timber is designed with a curved structure and the name came into fruition as the clients and studio referred to the project as a 'fried egg.' It expands the ground floor of the house by three meters and creates a bright dining space.
THISS Studio explains to Dezeen, "We wanted to create a fun and unconventional presence in the garden that also reflected [the clients'] playful character as people. We wanted to think of the new addition at a domestic scale and more like a piece of furniture that you can sit within and enjoy, rather than a typical extension of the existing spaces. In doing so we were forced to consider the materials and how they came together much more than you normally would, as every joint and intersection was exposed."
