The Norwegian Traffic Agent Safe Street Design App Utilizes Children's Input

This street design app helps create safer communities by getting input from children. Based in Oslo, this Traffic Agent app asks students to report on the state of the Norwegian city's streets -- the positive and the negative. Also called Trafikkagenten, the smartphone application focuses on school age kids and their route to and from school.

Focusing specifically on safe street design, the mobile reporting solution assigns every young user a secret agent number, giving them a fun and engaging way to participate. The gamified approach makes logging street conditions more fun, also adding a competition aspect to the app. The Traffic Agent team is working closely with schools and parents. It was also developed by the Agency of Urban Environment, the Norway Center for Transport Research and the Oslo City Teaching Agency.
