Steam by Gem Fletcher Captures Quirkily Obstructed Photographs

Steam by Gem Fletcher, an art director at Getty Images based in London, United Kingdom, is a photo series revolving around, well, steam. Focusing on the interaction between people and this effervescent vapor, the images conceal the portraits in subtle ways. Whether the steam is present on a pane of glass placed in front of the model like a window or shower door, or simply covers an item of their clothing like their eyewear, it is present in some way or form.

Stepping in front of photographer David Ryle's lens, the models in Steam by Gem Fletcher all maintain stoic expressions, which lend a quirky quality to the crisp portrait series. Shot against pastel backdrops, they were outfitted in a simple wardrobe by stylist Natasha Freeman with hair and makeup by Ellie Tobin.
