CW&T’s Spicy mortar and pestle is machined into a 1.31 kg spherical steel form that rethinks the traditional grinding tool as a compact, sculptural kitchen object suited to everyday use. Instead of a conventional bowl and separate pestle, Spicy uses a ball-and-socket arrangement machined from stainless steel with a bead-blasted exterior and a rough interior surface that bites into spices and seeds.

The heavy stainless-steel mass keeps the mortar planted while grinding, and the spherical pestle is rolled and twisted against the interior rather than pounded, making the motion easier on the wrist and producing a smoother grinding action. A cork base cushions the piece and protects countertops while allowing slight repositioning during use. Dishwasher-safe construction eliminates porous materials that can stain or retain flavours, and paired accessories such as CW&T’s minimalist salt cellar extend the design language across kitchen tools.
