Goldwin Taps SPIBER To Create the Inaugural Biomaterial Design

Goldwin and SPIBER work in collaboration to launch the world's first-ever knitted biomaterial clothing item. This plant-based biomass was sourced by SPIBER using its signature fermentation process. This is the background to the brand's classic Brewed Protein fabrication.

It is a biopolymer material that replicates a similar quality and feel to natural spider silk materials. Goldwin plays its role by blending this with cashmere and fine merino wool to make it more suitable for the Fall/Winter 2020 season. The stylistic elements reference a classic sky sweater made from soft twisted yarn and textured low gauge weave. This collective project nods to both brands' effort to reducing the fashion industry's petrochemical-based textiles and aim for more sustainable solutions.
