Speed Up Table

When Automobile Designers Make Tables

Sacha Lakic is probably more well known in Europe for his automobile design, however he does design just about anything and everything. Like tables for Roche Bobois, for instance. The Speed Up table, shown here, is one of several in a collection Mr. Lakic has recently designed for the company. It harkens back to the work of Eero Saarinen and his Tulip collection for Knoll. However, Lakic's piece diverges first by making the Speed Up table symmetrical along one axis instead of two as the Tulip Table is. Lakic also stretches the table out to one end giving the table a distinct feeling of motion. I could almost compare these tables to Michelangelo's David versus Bernini's David. One is static and perfect while the other is dynamic and in constant motion.
