The US Postal Service has launched two captivating new space-themed postal stamps for its Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express services.
The Spiral Galaxy stamp shows spiral galaxy NGC 628. It is located approximately 32 million light-years from Earth in the Pisces constellation. The US Postal Service goes on to explain that "the blue light within the hazy circular core at the center of the image represents clusters of older stars" and "the light these old stars emit are some of the shortest infrared wavelengths seen in the telescope's images." The Star Cluster stamp, on the other hand, is located 1,000 light-years from Earth in the constellation Perseus. Its identification is IC 348.
