The Some Kind of Practice installation at Dubai Design Week reimagines courtyard space as a living threshold between architecture and community. Titled When Does a Threshold Become a Courtyard?, the project uses simple industrial materials such as stacked breeze blocks, corrugated steel, and palm-frond panels to reinterpret the spatial traditions of the UAE. By arranging walls, roofs, and voids with intentional imperfection, the installation reflects how everyday structures evolve through climate, craftsmanship, and human use.
Designed as a flexible arena for talks, screenings, and dining, the courtyard encourages participation and interaction rather than static observation. Its open layout invites airflow and shifting light, exploring how architecture can respond to its environment while fostering social connection. Through this installation, Some Kind of Practice transforms vernacular design language into a contemporary expression of collective experience and cultural continuity.
