Pedestrian-Powered Street Lights

These Solar Street Lights Are Placed in Tourist-Filled Las Vegas

The solar street lights in downtown Las Vegas provide an eco-friendly method of illuminating their surroundings.

The street lights were implemented by the city's community services through the startup 'EnGo Planet' and although Las Vegas has previously used solar street lights, the ones it most recently instituted also use kinetic energy. The energy is harnessed from people walking by, while sunlight is also used to create energy. Due to the fact that the area receives a lot of foot traffic from tourists, the technology is strategically placed to optimize its intended purpose. The technology will also be able to provide WiFi and cell phone charging stations in the area, as well as track air quality.

The implementation of this new technology could work as a setting stone for similar programs in other densely populated cities.
