Snøhetta Offers a Unique Garden Experience in New Museum Design

Snøhetta has completed its extension design for the Ordrupgaard Museum in Denmark. The original museum was built during the first world war in the neo-classical style. Snøhetta was commissioned as the second architect - following Zaha Hadid in 2005 - to build a contemporary museum extension.
The firm designed five subterranean exhibition spaces and several landscape interventions. Amongst the most interesting new interventions is the steel-coated structure the marks the placement of an underground exhibition space. The steel design sits low to the ground and offers an interesting aesthetic to the outdoor gardens. It equally acts as a pathway for visitors to browse the outdoor space in a non-imposing way.
The steel structure is polished in different directions which creates a unique play of light that changes throughout the day, and creates a unique atmosphere in the outdoor space.
